We watched…

  An American Werewolf in London

Year: 1981

Directed by John Landis

Not really my cup of tea, this mixture of comedy and horror, but it could be good on a beer-chips-cheese kinda night…

Reading:

The Last Juror by John Grisham

The other day we watched…

Flags of Our Fathers

Directed by Clint Eastwood

Year: 2006

Very realistic and impressive story regarding the attack of Iwo Jima.

Sometimes a bit confusing, with all the soldiers’ names, and the camera that moves so fast.

If feels as if this is a true representation of what went on during that battle.

Part of two films regarding the war: the other one is Letters from Iwo Jima, with the Japanese perspective.

Last book I finished…

  Playmates by Robert B. Parker

Good Spenser story, involving baseball and gambling.

The one before that was Small Vices by Robert B. Parker

Another Spenser novel.

Still reading:

Altered States by Anita Brookner

Watched:

  Beneath the Skin

Based on a novel by Nicci French

Year: 2005

Not a bad film, but the story seems somewhat artificial, as if someone has spent too much time thinking about the plot, and the story around it.

Musical experiment… February 19, 2012

I came across this musical experiment

from the Washington Post.

In the context of a journalistic piece for the newspaper, violinist Joshua Bell played some classical pieces in the entrance hall of a subway.

Read and watch how little he was appreciated…

We watched…

Skin Game

by Alfred Hitchcock

Year: 1931

(leading title page: “a talking film!”)

Interesting story. A conflict between an aristocratic family and their country estate, and an entrepeneur who wants to buy land in the area for factories. The atmosphere turns nasty, then disasterous.

Bit too slow for the modern day viewer.

Illustator… February 16, 2012

I found this illustrator who featured in an issue of Martha Stewart’s Living magazine. Miyuki Sakai.

She makes her illustrations with her sewing machine!

Cool.

P.s. No don’t look at the pie, look behind it!

What people do… February 11, 2012

Filed under: News — Simone @ 8:04 pm

… what people do for money…

This guy John Goodman, 48, who has a lot of money, has killed someone in an accident caused by drunkdriving.

Just before his trial starts, he has now adopted his 42-year old girlfriend in order to be able to keep his money away from the trial, and any potential financiel settlement with the victim’s family. read it here and here.

Creepy!

His two children, from a previous relationship, are not amused with this third sibling, and are prepared to take legal action apparently.

…Page 154 from

Hugger Mugger by Robert B. Parker

(a woman, who has already met private detective Spenser, now comes to his office as a client)

“I wanted to see you,” she said, and shifted a little in her chair and crossed her legs the other way. Which displayed a fair amount of thigh.

I observed closely. You never knew when a clue might present itself.
