The Memory Box – Margaret Forster May 2009
A wonderful novel, beautifully written, about the memory box that was left by a dying mother for her daughter. The daughter only opens it when she is an adult, because she never really cared much about her biological mother, who died when she was only six months old.
The items in the box are dealt with one by one, taking Catherine to the sea, to holiday destinations, to meet with people who knew her mother. Ultimately, Catherine puts her own family and her own position in a very different perspective.
