Local market… April 1, 2012

I love local markets.

Local market April 1:

Very nice, all those stands with handmade items, such as bags, clothes, ukuleles, decorative art, and jewelry, but also cheese and pies and sandwiches and snacks and liqueurs.

(Sometimes you wish you were fond of something like liqueurs, just so that you could make a purchase. The bottles looked nice!)

There were also stands with flowers, bulbs, plants, and fruit, which were very popular, probably partly because it was really sunny.

I bought some bulbs and some cheese.

The only thing that was missing was a stand with lots of things made of paper…

;-)

Someone’s watching… March 30, 2012

The patient is watching….

Zulu with Michael Caine

Year: 1964

He wanted some distraction because his arm hurts.

The bandaging came off yesterday, but turning his hand still hurts pretty bad.

Driving or cycling is still not posible.

Tomorrow five ladies are coming over. Yeehah!

When I reminded the patient, there was a particular look on his face. Shock? Terror? I’m not sure.

Somehow, I don’t think this concept triggered an image of a peaceful, quiet evening of recuperation for him.

Improvement… March 27, 2012

The patient is much better today.

Since all the chores have already been done, the patient is now relaxing and enjoying the drinks and the food I’m serving.

And later today: Fries, hamburgers and icecream for dinner!

The birthday trip to Germany has been postponed to April.

(the friendly staff at the hotel has allowed us to move the dates, even though the booking was nonrefundable!)

We watched…

  An American Werewolf in London

Year: 1981

Directed by John Landis

Not really my cup of tea, this mixture of comedy and horror, but it could be good on a beer-chips-cheese kinda night…

Celebrations!! February 21, 2012

I am celebrating…

…the fact that I have this delicious creation in front of me, and I am going to eat it.

It’s advocaat flavour… yummmm…

Multitasking… November 18, 2011

I can make things with paper (I like to think so), but I can also make things with vegetables!

Behold my very own pumpkin soup!

With a blob of creme fraiche and some  pumpkin seeds.

Delicious!

Beach food… November 10, 2011

We went for a nice stroll on the beach today,

with the sunny weather we couldn’t resist going.

We also could not resist the little stand that sells fish and icecream and fries.

So YES, we had a huge bag of fries, with the works: mayo, ketchup and onions.

That made today an EXCELLENT day!

We watched the classic

The Longest Day with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and many, many others.

Year: 1962

Excellent war movie, based on Cornelius Ryans book.

The film was made with advise from actual officers, both Allied and German, which makes it a well balanced story (not with shouting idiots as Germans, and gentle heros as Allies).

Very realistic battle scenes, and great acting.

The film is almost three hours, but I cannot possibly say that it was ´too long´, that would be an insult to the soldiers, who spent hours and hours attacking those beaches.

Before that, we enjoyed some lovely potato-and-brusselssprouts mash! with supersalty, crispy strips of bacon (free range!). It was delicious.

Even more so because my only task was to eat it!

Dinner… October 16, 2011

This was Friday’s dinner.

Two types of cheese, some cress, and a solid plain bread.

A solo dinner now and then is not too bad…

Tomato… June 29, 2011

Delicious tomato (coeur du boeuf) in balsamico vinegar.

Highly recommended for a hot sunny day!
